Happy Juneteenth everybody!! As a Houston, Texan, I could not be more thrilled to see the rest of the country catch up to the holiday I have celebrated all of my life. Thank you to Congress for this bi-partisan effort to pass this bill making Juneteenth a federal holiday. Thank you to President Joe Biden for getting it signed right away. Thank you Shelia Jackson Lee for being a long-suffering fighter for Texas equality and equity. And thank you to Miss Opal Lee for getting the idea at 89 years old to begin walking across this country to make Juneteenth a national holiday after 50 some odd years of trying.
